The World Health Organization estimates that 107,000 people die every year as a result of occupational exposure to asbestos. In the UK, the Health and Safety Executive puts the number of asbestos-related deaths at around 5,000 deaths per year. One of occupational groups most at risk due to the nature of their work is gas engineers.
